My friends and I just read the book Stella Batts: Needs a New Name by Courtney Sheinmel. We got together to talk about it together.
This book is about a girl named Stella Batts. She is 8 years old and in third grade. Stella loves to write. In this book she writes about herself. That's called an autobiography. She has a younger sister named Penny and her mom is pregnant. Stella wants to change her name because one of the boys in her class calls her "Smella". She tells her friends about her idea and they want to change their names too.
My favorite part was when they go to her parents candy story and they get to decorate cookies. I like that because I like cookies!
I think second and third graders would like this book. My sister is in fourth grade and she would like it too. I really like the illustrations because it gives a lot of detail.
The setting of the story was really important to the plot. The setting gave the girls ideas about changing their names.
The girls liked to play the game Spit in recess. At book club my mom taught us how to play. I enjoyed playing it with my friends too.
I liked the the book, it was easy to read. I didn't get bored reading it. I would recommend it to a friend. I want to read more in this series. The next books could be very interesting. Me and my friends decided to read
Stella Batts: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow next.
